Sergio Acebrón

Sergio P. Acebrón completed his undergraduate and doctoral studies in biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of the Basque Country (Bilbao, Spain). He then moved to Heidelberg University for his postdoc at the German Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ). In 2017, he became an independent group leader at the Centre of Organismal Studies (COS), and since 2023 he has held the position of Professor of Cell Signaling and Genome Stability. His lab focuses on how various cellular lineages integrate external signals during development and homeostasis, with emphasis on mis-regulations that can lead to cancer - particularly in the context of the Wnt pathway. In addition to his academic work, he is actively involved in science communication to the general public and collaborates with numerous Spanish organizations.
